Villisca Ax Murder House | My Experience | Paranormal Stories

I've had experiences with the paranormal a good portion of my life, pretty much since I was 16 years old. I've never been to an well-known "haunted" location and didn't know if anything would even happen at the location.

My husband and I have moved around a lot because we were both in the military, and since I'm from Maryland, I hadn't heard of this place before. My husband is from Iowa, so even though he had heard of the Villisca House, he'd never been, so he was okay with going.

It took a while to get there, but when we got to the neighborhood where the house was, I started to feel uneasy. I felt like if I had gone alone, I would have turned back around and headed home, but since my husband drove, I figured I would just go in the house because he had driven so far.

Anyway, we got up to the house and parked, and when we got out, I told my husband that I felt like my shoes weighed a ton. They felt so heavy that I had trouble taking steps, but felt the pressure release when we walked up to the barn. Once inside the barn, we signed in and paid, then waited for the lady to give us the tour. We turned around and walked outside of the barn, then walked into the house, and into the kitchen area.

To my right, right in front of a small alcove, I saw the shape of something, maybe about 5'10" to 6'2" standing there, and I felt like something heavy had dropped onto my shoulders. It felt like when you go to the dentist office and they drop that vest onto you for x-rays, but as if someone had put 10 of those on me at once. My knees kind of felt pushed down from the heaviness, and I felt like I was being pushed down. I felt whatever it was move away, then I felt the heaviness lift.

My husband had grabbed me to make sure I didn't fall and the lady was just staring at me, confused. I tried to explain that there was something there, but neither of them saw anything or felt anything. My husband has never had a paranormal experience, so I wasn't surprised by that, and I didn't know the lady, but felt that if she could feel whatever that thing was, she wouldn't be working there.

She led us into the living room, which is just off of the kitchen, and we sat on a couch, while she sat in a chair, and explained the story of the events that had occurred in the house. I was listening, and also trying to prepare myself in case that thing came back, and all of the sudden it walked across the living room. Again, I felt this intense heaviness on my shoulders, and it got stronger until it passed through the wall to the outside. Just like before, as soon as it was away from me, I felt the heaviness ease.

I was pretty scared, but also somewhat curious because I never felt like whatever it was wanted to harm me. It just seemed neutral, like it was curious about me, but then left me alone. We went upstairs after the lady finished telling the story, and nothing else happened. Whatever it was stayed outside the rest of the time, but I knew where it was.

I know that I'll never go back there. I've read about people spending the night there, but I know I couldn't. The heaviness I felt and lack of control scared me a lot.

I'm not really sure if it was a person or something else. I mean, I've seen plenty of ghosts, and that just didn't feel like a person. The murders were horrible though, and who knows what kind of energy that would attract.

I was certain before I went there that I would sense or see some kind of ghost or ghosts, especially children, because I've read about people having experiences with the closet upstairs, but I didn't feel anything like that.

Final Thoughts:

If anyone has questions, I'll be glad to answer them. I'd also like to hear about other experiences if anyone would like to share.

*I posted this on Reddit paranormal a while back if anyone has seen this before. This is a true story that happened to me in 2016 in Villisca, Iowa.
