The Best Green Beauty Products | Beauty and Skincare

I switched to green beauty products a couple years ago and I have never regretted the change. My skin has become very sensitive as I have gotten older, so any ingredients that do not agree with my skin aggravates my eczema right away. I have noticed that the more natural the ingredients, the more likely it is that I will not have any problems with the product I am trying out. This list includes skin care, makeup, hair care, bath and body care, lip care, and nail care. I hope you find some products you would like to try out.

Skin Care
KAHINA Giving Beauty Argan Oil ($15-$82)
This light oil sinks right into my skin. It does not cause breakouts or irritation and I notice my eczema is calmer when I use this product. It heals my dry skin and you do not need a lot, so it lasts quite a while. I've tried many other argan oils and this one sinks in the fastest.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial ($46)
This is supposed to be used as a facial mask you use while you are sleeping, but I use this every day on spots where my eczema usually shows up. This has deterred my skin from getting extremely dry and irritated. A little goes a long way, so a jar of this lasts me about three to four months

Graydon Skincare Face Food Mineral Mist ($38-$72) (Sample for $3.50)
I use this in the winter when my skin is really dry. It really helps to soothe any irritation that I have due to eczema and helps to heal my skin. I was kind of skeptical before using this, but I have to say it really works for irritated skin and eczema flare-ups. You're supposed to use it before you put on facial products, but I find using it after I've applied oil and the sleeping facial works better for me.

OSEA Ocean Cleanser ($18-$48)
This is my primary facial cleanser. I find that it gets all my makeup off without irritating or drying out my skin. I find that it lasts about three to four months, but I do not wear makeup every day, so you might use it up more quickly if you do.

Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic ($12-$14)
I use this to get a majority of my foundation and face makeup off. My skin does get a little red when I wipe my makeup off with this, but it returns to its normal color within seconds. I find my skin is a lot softer after using this and it does not dry out my skin or irritate my eczema. This does contain phenoxyethanol, which can irritate sensitive skin, so just be aware. I found one bottle lasts me about three months.

We Love Eyes Tea Tree Eye Makeup Remover Oil ($18)
I use this to remove my eye makeup before washing my face. It gets off all my eye makeup, eye primer, and mascara without irritating my eyes. I wear contacts and I do not find that the oil gets on my contacts or irritates my sensitive eyes in any way. It is an oil, but I do not find it to be greasy at all and I do not have to rub to get my eye makeup off. You do not need much to get all of your eye makeup off, so it lasts a few months.

Mahalo Skin Care Pele Mask ($70)
I use this mask to deep clean my pores, help my eczema if my skin is really irritated, and just overall to help my skin become more balanced. I notice if my eczema is acting up due to stress or illness, this will reset everything and my eczema will retreat. It is expensive, but it comes in powder form, so you don't need that much to make a mask. You take a little bit of the powder out, mix it with water to make a paste, then spread it over your face for about 20 minutes, careful to not let it dry. This mask is only available in the summer months on the Mahalo website, but I've noticed that it lasts me a long time, so buying it once a year or so isn't abnormal for me.

Birchrose + Co Antioxidant Mask- Cacao + Honey ($32)
I use this mask from time to time when my skin needs a little more moisturizing. This mask does not irritate my skin and I find the manuka honey to be very moisturizing and soothing. It smells really good too, so I look forward to using it. It doesn't last as long as the Pele mask, but I love it so much and it works so well that I keep buying it.

HAN Skincare Cosmetics Bronzer ($16)
I use the shade Malibu as I have fair skin. (Unfortunately, this company only has three shades, so not much of a selection for every skin tone). I find that this bronzer lasts most of the day if I set my face with powder before I use it. It blends easily, looks very natural, and does not irritate my sensitive skin at all. It is easy to remove at the end of the day as well.

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation ($44)
I have tried many other foundations and they have all either irritated my skin, were unflattering, or were the wrong shade. This foundation works really well with my dry skin. The coverage is buildable, so you can get medium to full-coverage if you'd like, but I generally just use one layer and it covers up any redness really well. I usually put some argan oil on underneath before I use it and I've never found it to break up during the day or disappear. I do set it with powder because with the argan oil, so it is dewy, but if you aren't using oil underneath of the foundation, you might not need to set it. The formula is isn't very viscous, so if you aren't careful, it will run everywhere (and you should shake it up before you use it every time). The way I use it is to turn it on its side slightly, pump a small amount on my fingertip, dot some on about a fourth of my face, then I blend it with a foundation brush. I found that a foundation brush works the best because a beauty sponge with soak most of it up and waste a lot of foundation. Just remember, it is very runny, not like most foundations (kind of the consistency of an oil), so only pump out a small amount at a time or it will go everywhere. FYI- there are more shades on the Juice Beauty website than at Ulta's website. I buy from Juice Beauty's website and they ship fairly quickly.

Antonym Cosmetics Waterproof Eye Pencil ($19)
I find that this eye pencil lasts all day, is very creamy, and does not irritate my eyes at all. It is easy to take off at the end of the day, so I never have any problems with it. It comes in three colors and has a sharpener at the end of the pencil (you can take it off if you want- it's not attached). I use the shade Brown (Sephora only has the shade Noir).

Red Apple Lipstick ($23.50)
I find that this lipstick brand has some of the most comfortable lipsticks around. They have great ingredients and last a long time if you aren't eating or drinking (or kissing). They don't fade in a weird way and they don't dry out your lips at all. They do transfer some, but I don't find that they bleed outside of my lips or create a weird line at the wet/dry line on my lips. I have liked every color I have tried too.

Clove + Hallow Lip Glaze ($15)
I find this hybrid of a lipstick and a lip gloss to be very comfortable to wear and it is very flattering on any size of lip. I find that it doesn't fade in a weird way, doesn't dry out my lips, and doesn't create a weird ring on my wet/dry line. I do have to reapply after eating and drinking, but I don't mind. I wear the color Angelic 1 and it is a very pretty pink/mauve color.

* I haven't found spectacular mascara, eyeshadows, eye primer, blush, and highlighter that are considered green and natural, so I won't be including any of those on this list.. I will update this list if I find any other great makeup products in the future.
Hair Care
REVERIE Milk Anti-Frizz Leave-In Nourishing Treatment ($42-$64)
This leave-in treatment is great if you have dry hair or dry ends. I have naturally curly hair, so my hair is perpetually dry. This really helps to moisturize my hair without weighing it down. I don't add a lot because a little goes a long way and if you add too much it can make your hair greasy the next day, but if you add just enough it makes your hair shiny and soft. I find that the more that I take the time to really get the treatment into my hair, the better my hair looks, so take some time and warm it up in your hands by rubbing your hands together and run it through the ends of your hair for a few minutes. If your hair gets greasy the next day, you are probably using too much. I also love the way it smells. It's a mix of essential oils that make your hair smell really good, but its not overpowering. I get headaches from scents and this doesn't give me a headache. If you go on the REVERIE website, you can get a larger size for a better price (if you already know you like it).

Calia Natural Organic Styling Gel ($10.49)
I use this to style my 3A type hair. I find that it doesn't weigh my hair down, styles and defines my curls, doesn't make my hair greasy, and doesn't irritate my sensitive scalp. This is the best gel I've found for my hair that doesn't have any toxic or irritating ingredients. It washes away clean in the shower and when you wash your hands after styling. I just put some in my hands, rub my hands together, then run my hands through my hair, scrunching my curls. Sometimes I add a little too much and it makes my curls a little crunchy, but if you scrunch your curls, it makes the crunchiness go away and you don't get those weird gel flakes if you add too much gel. I find that it lasts and defines my curls all day and doesn't really seem to have any kind of smell to it. The company is based in Canada, but I've had nothing but good experiences with the company and the price is awesome. I usually receive my items within a week.

Bath & Body Care
Plant Apothecary Bodywash (Get Happy and Be Well) ($19)
Plant Apothecary makes some really great body wash. The scents are not overpowering, they are very moisturizing, and do not irritate my skin. The Get Happy scent is geranium and peppermint, and the Be Well scent is eucalyptus and bergamot. There are three other scents, Calm Down, Get it On, and Wake Up, and you can either get a full-size bottle or a trial-size bottle (or a set of trial-size bottles to try them all out). I find a full-size bottle lasts a couple of months because you don't need that much. It's about the consistency of honey and it feels very luxurious on the skin. My skin always feels very soft after I use it.
Found at:
https://plantapothecary.com/collections/all#Bath (They do not carry all of the body wash options for some reason)

Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Bath & Shower Oil ($73)
This has to be the best bath oil I've ever used. It smells amazing and it really does help to relax my muscles and joints when I am in pain. The scent isn't overpowering, but it does last all day. I've never found the scent to give me a headache and the oil isn't greasy, just moisturizing. It does seem very expensive, but you only use a small cap full of the oil in your bath, so it does last me about six months if I take a bath a few times a month to relax. Remember to get the De-Stress Muscle, not the De-Stress Mind bath oil as they have slightly different scents.

Nubian Heritage Mango Butter Hand & Body Scrub ($12.99)
I use this moisturizing body scrub in the shower and it really helps to get rid of any dry skin in the winter. It is very moisturizing, so I don't usually have to use a body butter or body lotion after I use this product. It smells like fresh oranges, but isn't overpowering at all. I haven't found that it gives me a headache or causes any breakouts on my body. If your hands get really dry, this is also a good product to leave by your sink to exfoliate and moisturize your hands. Just be careful to rinse away all the product in your shower as the oil can make your shower floor or bathtub slick.

https://www.vitacost.com/nubian-heritage-hand-body-scrub-mango-butter-with-shea-cocoa-butters-vitamin-c-12-oz-1
I've seen this brand at Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market, but not every store carries the scrub and the price tends to be higher at these stores than on the Nubian Heritage website and Vitacost.com
Nubian Heritage Mango Butter Body Lotion ($12.99)
I use this thick body lotion in the winter when my skin is very dry. It's the type of body lotion (more like the consistency of a butter, but in a bottle) where you put it on at night to let it do the most work to heal your skin. It smells just like fresh oranges (like the hand & body scrub), but isn't greasy and the smell isn't overpowering.

100% Pure Coconut Hand Buttercream ($15)
I love this thick hand buttercream for my hands any time of the year. I wash my hands often and they tend to get dry and feet tight. This really helps to keep my hands soft and moisturized throughout the day. The best part is it smells like fresh coconut and doesn't give me a headache. It really sinks in and heals your skin instead of sitting on top of the skin like so many other hand creams. I have a couple of these and find that I use them all the time. You do only get two ounces, but I don't have to use a lot at once, so I find that they last a few months.

Lip Care
Chicken Poop Mint Lip Junk ($4)
I use this lip balm almost every day and I find that it soothes and heals my dry lips. I don't find that it sits on top of my lips or feels waxy in any way. I don't have to reapply very often throughout the day (just once or twice a day), and the peppermint feels nice and tingly (they also have other flavors if you don't like peppermint or are allergic). Also, there's not actually chicken poop in the lip balm, I wouldn't do that to you.

Whole Foods Market
Noyah Organic Vanilla Lip Balm ($3.99)
I use this lip balm at night because it's more emollient than the Chicken Poop lip balm. I like that it's a little thicker and moisturizing to use at night to heal my lips if they are especially dry in the winter. It does have stevia in it, which I generally don't like, but I don't find the stevia in this lip balm to have that weird bitter/metallic aftertaste stevia usually has. In this lip balm, you just get a little bit of sweetness, then it disappears.

Metta Skincare Coconut Lip Balm ($14)
This is the lip balm I use when it is in the middle of winter and not even humidifiers help to soothe my dry skin. This lip balm heals my lips completely, even when they have gotten painful and split due to dry air. This lasts me forever since I only need a pea-sized amount for my lips (and they are full). I usually use this at night because it is a thicker lip balm unless it's super dry and the Chicken Poop Lip Junk or the Noyah lip balm aren't enough. It really is amazing and I haven't found anything close to being as good for my lips in the winter.

French Girl Rose Lip Polish ($18)
I use this lip scrub when my dry skin has healed, but dry patches still cling to my lips. It removes dead skin easily and really helps to moisturize your lips. I've tried a ton of lip scrubs and have even made quite a few of my own, but this is the best one I've ever tried, hands down. You don't need a lot, so it lasts for a long time. It doesn't have a nasty chemical taste; it just tastes like sugar and has a light, pleasant scent that doesn't seem to linger.

Nail Care
Lauren B. Beauty Reparative Cuticle Oil Treatment ($22)
I use this every few days to maintain moisture in my cuticles, which tend to get dry from washing my hands. This has a very pleasant scent and penetrates my cuticles very quickly. I only need a drop for each hand, so a little goes a long way, making it last quite a while. It isn't oily or greasy, so you don't have to worry about it staining your clothes, although I tend to use this at night when I can be sure it will do its best work.

EIR NYC Tough Love ($12)
This cuticle balm is a lot like Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, but more emollient. I use this when my cuticles need more moisturizing than the Lauren B. Beauty cuticle oil can give. I find that it heals my cuticles when they are the most dry in the winter within a day or so and it is good at staying on my cuticles even after washing my hands during the day. I'm not a big fan of the scent for some reason, but I can usually only smell it for a few minutes after I've put it on, so it's not a big deal. It is a balm, so even though I use it a lot right now, I've barely used any in the tin, so I expect it will last me a long time.

Final Thoughts
The websites I have included are all websites I am familiar with and have ordered from many times before. I prefer to shop at Petit Vour's website because I have gotten their monthly subscription box for a few years now and their shop gives you 20% back when you purchase products from them. I also like to shop at Vitacost because they usually have some kind of discount code and/or items are on sale, so I can get some products for a lot less than I'd pay for them at Whole Foods Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, or on the brand-specific website.
A lot of these products may be considered luxury green beauty products and you may be thinking, is she crazy? How much does she spend on products a year? I kind of think of it as an investment. I could spend less, but I like knowing what ingredients are going to be put on my skin and essentially going into my body. I spent less before and I was miserable because every product irritated my skin and my eczema so much I was itchy all the time. It is a lot to pay up front for the products, but I make sure I get products when they are on sale or I can find a discount code in order to save money. Then I think about how much each product costs a month for however many months I use it for and it's not that much in the long run.
Some of the products can be found at Sephora and Ulta, so you can try them out there for free and get samples of them to see if they work for you. You can try many of the products at Whole Foods Market and use the testers at Sprouts Farmers Market.
I found many of the products I use through Petit Vour's subscription box. It is a little pricey at $18 a month, but I've found that the box is at least worth $45 (usually more) and I've found so many awesome products from there that it has been worth it to me for many years.
If you are interested in trying out green beauty products, go out to some of these stores and try the products out. It may spark your interest in trying out even more green beauty products. If you are already familiar with green beauty products, I hope you find some new products here that you haven't heard of before and find some new favorites.
*Just a note. A lot of these products can be found on Amazon.com, but when it comes to beauty products, I would rather get them from a seller I know than risk the product being counterfeit, expired, or opened. I've read a lot of reviews about beauty products on Amazon.com not being what people thought they ordered, so just be aware.
Thanks,
A
